Controversial UFC fighter Nick Diaz is turning heads and dropping jaws again.
Diaz told the LA Times that he wants the winner of the Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler UFC welterweight championship fight at UFC 171.
“I’m the No. 1 draw in this weight division, that’s just the way it is,” Diaz said. “I win by submissions, knockouts. There’s guys ranked above me, but no one’s interested in seeing them fight. They want to see me fight. You want to make a good fight, this’ll be a good fight.”
Diaz lost his last two fights against Georges St-Pierre and Carlos Condit. His explosive fighting style, however, makes him believe he deserves a title shot.
“I’m not sure what the UFC’s agenda is when it comes to me,” Diaz said. “It’s their show, their press. They can change to whatever they want to do at any point. They own this thing. They can do whatever they want. If they don’t want this right now, they don’t have to do it.”
Diaz is the former Strikeforce welterweight champion. He retired after his fight with St-Pierre, but now says he wants to return, but only if it is for a title shot.
So far UFC President Dana White has said that Diaz doesn’t deserve a title shot.
