Ronda Rousey knocked out Sara McMann with a knee to the liver, Rousey’s first win in MMA without using an armbar.
The two exchanged combinations for the first minute of the round, but Rousey overwhelmed her with Muay Thai kicks and punches.
Finally, Rousey dropped McMann with a knee to the liver against the cage, at 1:06 of the first round.
“It was the best thing to concentrate on the liver shot for this camp,” Rousey said in the post-fight interview.
McMann was disappointed.
“I thought it was a good fight,” McMann said. “I got hit in the liver. No matter how hard you train you can’t make your liver stronger.”
McMann said she didn’t have a problem with the early stoppage.
“I should have got back to my feet quicker,” McMann said. “I should have got off the cage a little quicker and that would have kept from getting kneed.”
McMann kept her eyes closed during the staredown, never looking at Rousey.
