The second bout of the night was a flyweight contest with potential title implications. Ali Bagautinov (12-2) looked to dispatch Brazilian powerhouse John Lineker (23-6) who almost missed weight for the forth time in his UFC career.
Round 1: Lineker came out with a haymaker that went just over Bagautinov’s head as he came in for a takedown, which he got. Lineker went for a heel hook which Bagautinov escaped and attempted to counter but they both came up with nothing and stood back up. Lineker came in with a big head kick which was caught by Bagautinov who dumped him on the mat to finish the round.
Round 2: Lineker backed Bagautinov against the cage and loaded up on hooks to the body. One at a time, he battered Bagautinov’s body. They were doing damage on Bagautinov who couldn’t get the takedown on Lineker who was waiting for it come. Lineker stalked Bagautinov like a man in the heavyweight division. Flat-footed, he walked in looking like he was about to finish each time. Bagautinov tagged him coming in but it didn’t sway Lineker who was intent on picking the body of Bagautinov apart.
Round 3: Bagautinov was able to drag Lineker down in this round. Two takedowns in a row with the second forcing Lineker to wince, set up a good final round for Bagautinov. Lineker got to his feet for a moment until a pursuing Bagautinov got a hold of him again and dragged him to the mat. Lineker walked up the cage inside the clinch of Bagautinov. Another takedown by Bagautinov set up a ride to the end of the fight. Lineker got a heel hook on a standing Bagautinov who insulted the move by calling and waving to the crowd.
Official Decision: Ali Bagautinov defeats John Lineker via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
