The first fight of the main card was a lightweight tilt as two fan favorites faced off in what turned in to an all out war. Jamie Varner (21-8-1, 2 NC) took on Abel Trujillo (11-5, 1 NC).
This bout was sure to deliver fireworks and it was nothing short of spectacular.
Round 1: A tense first round kicked off the main card. Both men were inches away from winning or losing the fight as knockout punches whizzed right past each other’s head. Varner got the fight to the mat first and used excellent back control to grab a north-south choke. He held on to it for a while but couldn’t finish and Trujillo got back to his feet. That is when they let their hands go. A round that single-handedly made up for any boredom on the preliminary card ended with both men swinging for the fences.
Round 2: With a bad cut under the right eye of Varner, both men blasted one another. Trujillo caught the worst of these wild transfers of punishment. Varner had Trujillo against the cage and unleashed hell on him. Trujillo got his back of the fence and circled out to catch Varner with a gigantic right hand that put him out, face first on the mat.
Official Decision: Abel Trujillo defeats Jamie Varner via Knockout at 2:32 of Round 2.
