During a special conference call from Bellator MMA, CEO Bjorn Rebney announced that Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson would participate in the Season 10 light heavyweight tournament at Bellator 110. The event will be held at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut on Febraury 28th.
Jackson was present during the call and poked fun at the name of his opponent in the opening round, Christian M’Pumbu while also giving respect to his talent. “I’m in it, and I’m in it to win it. I’m going to win this tournament by everybody going to sleep,” Jackson said.
He also stated that he decided to participate in the tournament after discussing the option with his manager. They concluded that the tournament would be the quickest path to the title and decided to partake.
Along with Jackson and M’Pumbu, the other side of the opening round bracket consists of a bout between Muhammed Lawal and Mikhail Zayats.
Jackson would go on to discuss the tournament format and what he plans after a win over M’Pumbu, “I’ve never felt better, and now it’s about getting the belt. Bellator is all about the tournaments, and if that’s what you need to do to get that belt, that’s what I’m going to do. M’Pumbu is up first, and when I finish him, it’s King Mo or Zayats, and then it’s onto the belt, simple as that.”
Jackson also covered his recent spat over Twitter with Tyrone Spong by telling SciFighting,”I just thought that shit was funny because nobody knows who he is. I’m concentrated on Christian M’Pumbu. I don’t even really care about that other guy [Spong].”
Jackson made his debut at Bellator 108 against Joey Beltran and earned a first round knockout. As for his original debut opponent in Bellator, Tito Ortiz, Jackson expressed his disinterest in a fight after Ortiz withdrew from the first scheduled bout with a fractured neck.
