The first fight on the main card was a lightweight bout between two men with a wealth of experience between them as Jorge Patino (35-14) took on Luis Palomino (21-9).
On a card that would crown the first lightweight champion, a win for these men would be pivotal in coming close to challenging the champion in the near future.
Round 1: Patino got a nice takedown in the first round while Palomino obviously wanted a stand up as he hugged Patino tightly and didn’t give him any room to strike. Palomino got his wish and referee Troy Waugh stood them back up. Palomino destroyed Patino with punches against the cage as he unloaded his hardest shots to Patino. Patino caught pretty much every one though his knees didn’t buckle. Palomino hit him on the head and went to the body but couldn’t get the finish while Patino got a takedown to exit round 1, but just barely.
Round 2: Patino hadn’t fully recovered in the second round. He was apprehensive and easily countered as he went for broke. Palomino stalked him and landed when it counted. Palomino turned in to a monster after a big counter dropped Patino. Palomino sprawled with ease and smelled a finish. He found that finish as Patino’s legs fell flat and he went out with Palomino being pushed off by the referee.
Official Result: Luis Palomino defeats Jorge Patino via Knockout at 4:20 of Round 2.
