Bellator continues to roll on with its announcement for its next light heavyweight title fight. Bellator champion Attila Vegh finally returns after sitting most of 2013 out with an injury.
Vegh last fought Christian M’Pumbo at Bellator 91, the bout in which he claimed the title.
He will face Emanuel Newton (22-7-1) who won the Bellator Season 8 light heavyweight tournament last year and won the interim light heavyweight title with a unanimous decision over Muhammed Lawal at Bellator 106. Their bout will unify the belt in the light heavyweight division.
“I’m ready for redemption,” Newton said in a press release issued by Bellator. “I really wasn’t ready at the time in my career to be a champion. It wasn’t something physically, mentally, and spiritually I was prepared for. I’m a totally different fighter now, and this is my time. I’m training hard, continuing to grow, and this is it. Now is the time. I’ve got a new contract with Bellator, Bjorn and I are happy, I’m going to be here for a long time and I couldn’t be happier. This is my home, and I’m going to be Champion.”
Also on the Bellator 113 card is the opening round of the season 10 lightweight tournament. The tournament is notably absent of former champion Michael Chandler who will get his shot at the title sometime in 2014 per a Bellator Twitter post that stated that the fight was “in the works”.
The lightweight tournament features several notable names such as season 8’s lightweight tournament winner Dave Rickels who takes on Patricky Pitbull and UFC veteran Terry Etim who was successful in his Bellator debut with a decision win over Patrick Cenoble.
Bellator 113 takes place on March 21st from the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas. Tickets are on sale now.
