Having shared separate spots on the UFC Fight for the Troops 3 card and both scoring highlight reel finishes, middleweights Derek Brunson (11-2) and Yoel Romero (6-1) seemed destined to fight eventually.

They got their chance to leap over the other with a win at UFC Fight Night 35

These results will be posted live. The UFC Fight Night 35 main card begins at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.

Round 1: The athleticism of Romero was shown off by a flying knee early on. Brunson survived the flurry and scored a takedown on the decorated wrestler. Brunson landed a huge head kick on Romero who brushed it off as if it missed. Romero grabbed a takedown of his own during a wild scramble. Brunson rocked Romero during the scuffle as Romero rolled backwards. The round had an extremely tense ending as both men seemed on the brink of landing something significant.

Round 2: A rare punch to the groin from Romero stopped the action for a minute. Romero came out confident after the break while both swung and landed. Brunson got another takedown on Romero as he tripped him to the mat and got right in to half guard. Brunsons got in to the mount for a short while. Romero kicked him down to half guard again and scrambled back to his feet. Brunson stuffed a takedown late in the round.

Round 3: The third round looked like someone hit the slow motion button on both men. Romero landed big haymakers in this round. Brunson couldn’t get his hands up and got hit multiple times and rocked on each strike. Brunson eventually went down at which time Romero worked his way around Brunsons and dropped elbows to the side of Brunson who was on his side. A brutal finish for Romero.

Official Result: Yoel Romero defeats Derek Brunson via TKO (strikes) at 3:23 of Round 3.
