Former UFC lightweight and Ultimate Fighter Season 16 runner-up Mike Ricci (8-4) has found a home with Titan Fighting Championships. After going 1-2 in the UFC including a loss in the finale of the 16th season of TUF, Tri-star gym’s Mike Ricci was released from the promotion.
His first fight since leaving will be the headliner of Titan FC 27 opposite MMA veteran Jorge Gurgel (14-9). Gurgel is 3-7 in his last ten and will be fighting in just his third promotion since 2006. He had a long run in the UFC, amassing a 3-4 record before moving to Strikeforce where he holds wins over Conor Heun and Billy Vaughan.
The co-main event will be a middleweight bout between two more UFC veterans in Michael Kuiper (12-3) and Matt Riddle (7-3, 2 NC).
Kuiper was released from the UFC after dropping two straight fights by guillotine choke. Kuiper left with a 1-3 record for the promotion.
His opponent Riddle made the jump from the UFC to Bellator after failing two drug tests in three fights. Both fights that he failed the tests for were originally wins for Riddle but were subsequently changed to No Contest’s. Initially, Riddle had signed with Legacy FC until Bellator purchased his contract. Riddle was removed from two bouts for Bellator due to injury with a brief retirement splitting the two expected appearances up. After the second withdrawal, Bellator released him.
Titan FC 27 will take place on February 28th from Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. This will also be the first Titan FC event that will air on the CBS Sports Network as part of a recent deal.
