The UFC returns to Florida on April 19th as UFC on FOX comes to the Amway Center in Orlando. The UFC posted the official news via their Twitter.
Along with the events venue and date, two fights were also announced.
The first was an expected heavyweight bout between Travis Browne (16-1-1) and Fabricio Werdum (17-5-1). The bout between the two was rumored since UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was reported injured and place on the shelf until later in 2014.
This left number one contender Fabricio Werdum without an opponent as he last defeated Antonio Rodrigo ‘Minotauro’ Nogueira last June. Browne will return from a knockout of Josh Barnett at UFC 168. This bout with Barnett was Browne’s last on his contract yet the details of his new contract are not yet known.
The other bout announced was a women’s bantamweight bout between Miesha Tate (13-5) and Liz Carmouche (9-4). Tate notably fought for the women’s bantamweight title in her last time out but was routed by champion Ronda Rousey. Although she lost, Tate became the first person to bring Rousey out of the first round.
Carmouche last fought Alexis Davis at UFC Fight for the Troops 3. Davis beat Carmouche via unanimous decision bringing her UFC record to 1-2 overall. Her sole UFC win is over Jessica Andrade.
As for the main event of this UFC on FOX 11 card, the UFC said it was still TBA. UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson has been rumored to be defending his title in the main event solely due to his frequent appearance in UFC on FOX main events — his last three fights were main events on FOX events.
