Another anticipated title trilogy for Bellator in 2014 has been announced. This time, at Bellator 112, Daniel Straus (22-4) and Pat Curran (19-5) will settle the score in the main event.
Bellator 112 takes place on March 14th at the Horseshoe Hammond Casino in Chicago, Indiana.
Bellator announced the news early Monday.
The first time these two met was back in 2009 when Curran handed Straus his third career defeat with a knockout.
They met for a second time at Bellator 106 with Curran holding the featherweight title and riding a six fight win streak. Straus defeated Curran by unanimous decision. Curran looked listless in their rematch and was defeated by an agile and persistent Straus.
Curran spoke on the November fight in which he lost his title as well as facing Straus once again:
“He’s an unbelievable fighter, and I know I have to be better on March 14th. I had a few things going on in my life when we fought in November, but those things are behind me and I don’t like to make excuses. Daniel is going to be a different fighter when we fight again, and so am I.”
“Whenever you fight, each win means something different and I know this one is incredibly important,” Straus was quoted as saying in the press-release which made the bout official.
Illinois-native Curran won’t exactly have field advantage although Straus still seems to disagree with the venue. This may have been coincidence or a push to sell tickets for a hometown fighter. Either way, the featherweight champion Straus had a prediction (on the location of the card) of his own which he posted through his official Facebook:
“My perception is that Bellator wants him as champ so bad not only does he get immediate rematch but gets it in his hometown damn near. Any thoughts?”
Also on the main card, a couple of welterweight tournament bouts as War Machine fights Nah-Shon Burrell and FightMaster winner Joe Riggs will take on Sam Oropeza.
Tickets go on sale January 17th.
