This might not come as a huge surprise for most but a third bout between Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler are expected to complete their trilogy, likely in 2014.
Bellator posted a photo via their official Twitter account of the two men squaring off in front of a huge screen which displays ‘Alvarez vs. Chandler III’. The photo came with the caption “Look what’s in the works. Who’s ready to complete the trilogy?”
Alvarez regained his title at Bellator 106 in the main event of the botched PPV card. That second fight was the favorite for some fans as one of the best fights of the year especially given the expectations from the first fight which won Fight of the Year in 2011.
After their first fight and two bouts in 2012, a long and trudging legal battle ensued between Alvarez and Bellator over his contract as most expected Alvarez to make his UFC debut in 2013 until news broke on him signing a contract with Bellator.
Alvarez’s narrow split decision over Chandler just added to the ongoing situation showing the lows and highs that Alvarez had faced since entering this legal battle with Bellator.
Their last fights were against one another as Alvarez escaped with a narrow split decision over Chandler, regaining his title in a wild turn of events for Alvarez’s career with the promotion.
No venue or date was added to the post as season ten waits to kick off early this year in what is perhaps the most anticipated Bellator fight of all time.
