A statement win over Gleison Tibau set eyes on Michael Johnson (14-8) who seems poised to make 2014 his year. He knocked Tibau out at UFC 168 after a fight which showcased his ever evolving skill set.
Obviously, after such a win a step up in competition is a natural move especially with New Year’s Resolutions being set in place to become the best in the division by the end of the year. For his first fight of 2014 Johnson has played matchmaker in calling out Nate Diaz over Twitter.
Johnson accuses Diaz of being quiet when it comes to the fight and uses a Diaz-esque tactic in antagonizing the TUF 4 winner.

Diaz last fought Gray Maynard in a rubber match at the Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale. Diaz was returning from a loss to Josh Thomson and needed a big win to rectify his previous performance. He never saw trouble once in dispatching of Maynard. A hungry and talented opponent in Michael Johnson may be just the fight each man needs and would surely be an early candidate for ‘Fight of the Night’.
A potential win over Diaz would tie the longest win streak of Johnson’s career at three with another perhaps breaking that glass ceiling that will help him inch towards a title in 2014. Diaz will look to return to conduct another winning streak as he blazed a trail in 2011-2012 destroying a myriad of contenders before losing to Benson Henderson in a December 2012 title shot at UFC on FOX 5.
