Fight Announcement Round-Up: Travis Browne vs. Fabricio Werdum and Much More

Today’s fight announcement round up contains changes to UFC on FOX 10, UFC 171, UFC Fight Night 36, TUF Nations Finale, a heavyweight title eliminator, and a drop in weight class.

Oleksiy Oliynyk Injured, off of UFC on FOX 10 against Jared Rosholt.

After a submission over MMA legend Mirko Cro Cop in early November, Oliynyk (48-9-1) signed with the UFC at 36-years-old. His first fight was set for UFC on FOX 10 until a recent injury forced him to withdraw from the bout, causing the fight with Jared Rosholt to be scrapped from the card. UFC on FOX 10 takes place January 25th from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.


Travis Browne vs. Fabricio Werdum Targeted for March Event.

While an official date has not been set, a heavyweight title eliminator between Travis Browne and Fabricio Werdum is being worked on for an unspecified main event in March. Werdum spoke to MMAFighting and said that while he wants a title shot, he doesn’t wait to be on the sidelines too long as champion Cain Velasquez heals from a recent injury.


James Te Huna Drops to Middleweight

A large light heavyweight to begin with, James Te Huna will be an even bigger middleweight as he plans to drops down to the 185-pound division according to Neil Rooke (@neilrooke01). Te Huna was last seen in the Octagon as he tried to jump up the ranks with win over Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua but was knocked out early in the first round.


Erick Silva vs. Takenori Sato at UFC Fight Night 36

After his original opponent Nate Loughran dropped out of their bout with an injury, Silva (15-4) will return against Takenori Sato (17-8). Silva’s last bout gave him his first knockout loss Dong-Hyun Kim defeated him back in October. Sato is a longtime member of the Pancrase and DEEP promotions and will make his debut against a challenging foe in Silva, who has never lost two straight. UFC Fight Night 36 takes place on February 15th at the Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil.


UFC 171 Gets Jimmy Hettes vs. Dennis Bermudez

A stylistic clash between a ground wizard in Hettes (11-1) and a bomber in Bermudez (12-3) has been added to the UFC 171 card on March 15th American Airlines Center in Dallas Texas. Hettes last submitted Rob Whiteford at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Munoz as Bermudez brought Steven Siler through 3 rounds and won a unanimous decision.


Tim Gorman Gets His Second Chance Against Mitch Gagnon

After an injury forced Tim Gorman from the Ultimate Fighter Season 18, the UFC promised him a shot in the Octagon despite not winning the tournament. His first appearance in the Octagon will be against Mitch Gagnon at the TUF: Nations Finale, an event rumored for April 16th in Quebec City. FOX Sports reported this fight first.
