Former UFC light heavyweight champion and current Bellator fighter Tito Ortiz has been arrested, suspected of misdemeanor DUI, after a single car crash in West Los Angeles at around 4:30 a.m. PT. “Ortiz was driving northbound on the I-405 when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the concrete center median,” a press release from the California Highway Patrol (published by KTLA news) stated as confirmed by (MMAFighting.com)
He was driving a 2012 Porsche Panamera yet no word on his speed at the time of the accident.
Ortiz was reportedly booked without a problem.
There were two passengers in the vehicle according to the California Highway Patrol and luckily none were harmed. Ortiz also submitted a chemical test to search for alcohol in his system. “He was transported to LAPD-77th Division for medical clearance and chemical testing and was booked without incident,” the California Highway Patrol stated.
Ortiz has been devoid of public legal issues for some time, last notably being the dispute with longtime girlfriend Jenna Jameson.
Ortiz posted the $15,000 bail a short time later and is expected in court on January 27th.
He was let expected to fight on the Bellator 106 card opposite Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson in a mutual Bellator debut for both men but was forced out of that bout due to a fractured neck. No debut had been set for Ortiz since.
His last fight was at UFC 148 when he lost a decision to Forrest Griffin in the co-main event. In his previous 10 bouts, he holds a 2-7-1 record with wins in 2006 and 2011. Ortiz had been set on retirement and made the announcement of his return to MMA via live Bellator event.
