UFC 168 was one of the biggest events in MMA history, so it seems only fitting that the prelims were also a huge success.
According to Fox Sports 1, the UFC 168 televised prelims were the most watched UFC prelims on the channel to date, and the “fifth most-watched show on the network since launch.” Additionally, the Uriah Hall vs Chris Leben bout was the second most watched UFC fight on the channel, just below August’s “Shogun” vs Sonnen bout. The averaged 1,554,000 viewers beat out the previous record of 998,000 by 56%.
The post-fight coverage also broke records. Its 313,000 viewers made it the most-watched post-fight show to date, up 26% over UFC 167’s 249,000. The show featured interviews with both middleweight champion Chris Weidman and women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey after their successful title defenses.
It’s a fitting send-off to 2013 for the UFC, and a great sign for the promotion’s television aspirations in the coming year.
