Fresh off her win against bitter rival and fellow TUF coach Miesha Tate (13-5), UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey (8-0) is already scheduled for her next title defense. The champ will be defending her belt against undefeated Sara McMann (7-0) in just less than two months from now.
Ahead of that highly anticipated bout, we can sneak a peek at the official fight poster, courtesy of Bleacher Report’s Jeremy Botter:
Of her seven professional career wins, McMann has achieved three decisions, three submissions, and one knockout. She’s only fought under the UFC banner once against German fighter Sheila Gaff (10-6-1), and she won via TKO in the first round. Having a strong background as a wrestler, it’s interesting to see if she can tangle with Rousey and not get launched by one of her Judo throws.
In her last fight, Rousey showcased her Judo skills to the world by repeatedly hip-tossing Tate to the mat almost at will, and dominating her on the ground with her versatile submission game. Come February 22nd, we’ll see if she’ll be able to throw McMann around like that. McMann was a high school and collegiate wrestler and is known for her takedowns and ability to outwrestle her opponents. It should be interesting to see how her wrestling game squares up against Rousey’s Judo.
Meanwhile, Tate, everyone’s favorite cupcake, said that she would like to continue fighting after her heart wrenching loss to Rousey. She tried to shake Rousey’s hand after the bout as a sign of respect only to meet the champ’s cold rejection. As a result, “Rowdy” was showered with boos while Tate was rewarded with a thunderous applause even though she lost. Now Rousey will have a second chance to earn the crowd’s favor.
UFC 170 takes place on February 22 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
