It appears Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino (12-1) is still gunning after UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey (8-0). Following Rousey’s UFC 168 victory over bitter rival and fellow TUF coach Miesha Tate (13-5), Justino tweeted the following:
“Ronda I’m coming to get you!” pic.twitter.com/JcDZoKgpwV
— Cris Cyborg (@criscyborg) December 29, 2013
Apparently, she wasn’t impressed by her dominating performance against Tate. This isn’t the first time Justino has called out Rousey via Twitter. She’s been doing this for quite some time now.
As intriguing as a matchup between Rousey and Justino seems, it’s not likely to happen anytime soon.
Rousey is a bantamweight (135 lbs) and Justino is a featherweight (145 lbs). Since Justino is the one challenging Rousey, she’s the one that will have to cut to her weight class. That means she’ll have to cut an additional ten pounds, and she already looks big for a featherweight.
Furthermore, the two don’t even fight under the same promotion. Rousey is one of the many fighters that came over to the UFC after its acquisition of Strikeforce. Justino also fought under the Strikeforce banner but failed her drug test in 2011 after defeating Hiroko Yamanaka (12-3). After that scandal, she didn’t have a single fight in 2012, and her negotiations with the UFC deteriorated.
Having ruined her chances of joining the UFC, she signed with the lesser known Invicta FC. Since joining Invicta, she’s won both of her fights under by knockout.
Many consider her to be the biggest threat to Rousey’s position as WMMA’s undisputed queen and want to see the two step into the cage. But given that the two fight in different weight classes under different promotions, we probably won’t ever see a Rousey vs. Justino matchup.
