After the lightweights did battle, the heavyweights took the stage as veteran Josh Barnett (33-6) wanted to show that he had plenty left in the tank. He fought Travis Browne (15-1-1) who came back from adversity (for lack of a better term) against Alistair Overeem, knocking the Dutch kickboxer out in the first round after being devastated by shots early and often.
Round 1: These heavyweights came out resembling men of a lighter weight class. They bounced around on there feet and threw heavy leather. Barnett got caught a few bad shots including a big straight punch to the eye that caused Barnett to grasp his own eye. Barnett shot in with a takedown to get out of danger but Browne countered with a knee to the face. Barnett fell to his knees with a loose double leg. Browne then dropped elbows to the side of Barnett’s head rendering him unconscious in an minute on the dot.
Browne then called out Fabricio Werdum: “You and me sweetheart, we have a date.”
Official Result: Travis Browne defeats Josh Barnett via KO (elbows) at 1:00 of Round 1.
