It appears that Vitor Belfort’s (24-10) latest streak of destruction has earned him a title shot against the winner of the main event at UFC 168.
The main event will feature a rematch between Anderson Silva (33-5) and Chris Weidman (10-0). The two fought before at UFC 162 when Weidman shocked the world and knocked out the long-reigning middleweight champ in the second round.
Meanwhile, Belfort has been tearing up the middleweight division. His last three fights have ended in knockout victories including his legendary win over Dan Henderson at UFC Fight Night 32.
At a recent UFC 168 pre-fight press conference, White confirmed that Belfort has done enough to earn a title shot.
“I think Vitor has earned the right to face whoever the winner is,” he said. “Vitor has been out there taking on all comers, and he’s next in line. No doubt about it.”
Belfort fought Silva once back in 2011 and lost by knockout. So he’ll probably be rooting for Weidman to win in their rematch.
UFC 168 takes place on December 28th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
