Right now, everyone is focused on the upcoming title fight between Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva.
Once a winner is crowned on Saturday though, what’s next for the middleweight division? According to UFC president Dana White, it might be Vitor Belfort’s turn to take a crack at the belt.
“On Saturday night, if Chris Weidman wins or Anderson Silva wins, the next massive, huge fight that everyone wants to see is Vitor Belfort,” White said on the Metro South Morning Show. “That’s what everybody wants to see.”
“You never know what happens here.… Anything could happen, but there’s nothing but big fights for Vitor,” he added, leaving room for the possibility of another contender stepping in instead.
Belfort seems like a fitting match up though. He’s gone 10-2 in his past 12, only losing to then middleweight champ Anderson Silva and light heavyweight champ Jon Jones.
His last three wins, all by KO/TKO, have placed him as the #2 contender in the division, just behind Silva.
UFC 168 will take place this Saturday, December 28.
