Women’s MMA sensation Holly Holm (6-0) will get a crack at a title.
After compiling an undefeated record, Holm will set her sites on Juliana Werner (7-3) to crown the inaugural Legacy FC bantamweight title. This will be Holm’s third fight for the promotion as Werner makes her debut.
The fight was confirmed by MMAJunkie at an event that has yet to be made official.
As fans know, Holm is a former boxing champion with a record of 33-2-3 who made a successful jump to MMA. She has five finishes on her record with only her last fight going to decision.
Werner is a 32-year-old Brazilian who returned to MMA after a five-year hiatus from 2006 to 2011. Since her return she has gone 4-0. Two of her three losses have come by submission, a discipline that Holm has yet to prove herself in during professional competition.
Seeing as Holm captures headlines with her career moves for being such a distinguished combatant, a win over her could boost Werner’s stock exponentially and will surely prove to be the biggest of her career.
In a recent interview with MMAJunkie, Holm’s coach Mike Winkeljohn stated that Holm is ready for the jump to the UFC. A title outside of the promotion may help her bolster her resume enough to come to terms with the world’s largest MMA promotion:
“We have talked to the UFC a few times already,” Winkeljohn said. “We’re just a little far apart on making the deal. We’re just waiting for the UFC to make the right deal, and we’re ready to go.”
UFC champ Ronda Rousey has also shown interest in the UFC signing Holm with a potential fight on the horizon before she retires.
