UFC on FOX will broadcast a special documentary on the man whom many believe was the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
“Like Water” was released in 2011 and chronicles Silva’s live in the lead-up to his classic UFC 117 battle against Chael Sonnen.
Sonnen turned himself into a household name in the fight, constantly berating the Brazilian and his country. Sonnen almost pulled off a tremendous upset in that fight. He won every round of the fight until the 5th when Sonnen got careless and allowed Silva to tap him out by triangle choke.
Silva defeated Sonnen again and won three other fights after the documentary was released.
The legendary fighter, 33-5, was considered the greatest mixed martial artist in the world until last July when Chris Weidman knocked him out in the second round. Silva, like he had in many of his other fighters, had been clowning around in the cage when Weidman caught him with a right hand and knocked him out.
Silva’s incredible run came to an end. He hadn’t lost, except for a disqualification, since 2004. Silva now promises to fight seriously and show the world his old winning ways. He will fight Weidman at UFC 168 on Dec. 28, in the main event of the card.
Although Weidman won convincingly, many observers believe that he got lucky because of Silva’s clowning around in the fight. Weidman is looking to prove that his victory wasn’t a fluke and Silva wants to show that it was a lucky punch. Silva also said a victory would cement his legacy as one of the greatest of all time.
Here’s how IMDb described the Silva documentary: “Anderson Silva is the deadliest man on the planet. The longest-reigning UFC Champion, and the most feared fighter in mixed martial arts. Like Water offers a unique perspective of the living legend as he trains with fellow fighters Lyoto The Dragon Machida, Junior Dos Santos, and Antônio Minotauro Nogueira, in preparation for his career defining title defense against challenger, and arch villain Chael Sonnen. Sonnen, a former champion wrestler, has many predicting that he is the one fighter who possesses the skill set required to defeat Silva.”
The documentary will air at 11 p.m. EST on FOX Sports 2.
