UFC 169 is scheduled to take place on February 1st; the day before the Super Bowl.
There’s without a doubt no sporting event more sacred in the American tradition than the Superbowl, So the UFC’s genius marketing strategy to host an event the day before it sounds like a great plan . . . except that it might backfire.
There have been recent forecasts of possible bad weather on Super Bowl Sunday. The NFL could possibly deal with this by postponing the game or beginning it earlier. If they start it one day earlier, it puts it on the same day as UFC 169.
NFL head of events frank Supovitz reiterates contingency plans in place that could see super bowl start day early, or day late or later

That would be disastrous for the UFC. Although mixed martial arts has gained immense popularity in recent years, it still doesn’t compete with the Super Bowl. Additionally, both events will be taking place in New Jersey. UFC 169 will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, and the Super Bowl takes place at the Met Life Stadium.
The NFL’s contingency plans are a worst case scenario, and even if they do change the date of the Super Bowl, there’s no guarantee it will be on February 1st. But just to be safe, the UFC should probably have a backup plan of their own.
