Recent reports have confirmed that Alexander Gustafsson (15-2) has edged Georges St-Pierre (25-2) in votes to make it on the “EA Sports UFC” video game cover. The young Swede will now join former opponent Jon Jones (19-1) on the cover of the promotion’s newest video game.

According to MMA Junkie, Gustafsson was very happy to be featured on the cover and thanked his fans for their votes.

“It’s a thrill and an honor to appear on the cover of the first ever ‘EA SPORTS UFC’ game,” Gustafsson stated. “I want to thank all my fans, especially everybody in Europe, who tirelessly campaigned and voted for me. This is a huge win, and it wouldn’t have been possible without everyone’s support.”

Gustafsson was chosen from a group of sixteen fighters. More than eleven million votes were counted in the overall process.

The reason for Gustafsson’s rise in popularity is likely due to his most recent bout against current light heavyweight champ Jon Jones. Even though he lost that fight, he gave the champ the most challenging task of his career in what was one of the best fights of the 2013.

Meanwhile, Gustaffson is scheduled to face off against undefeated Brit Jimi Manuwa (14-0) on March 8th in London. And Jones will be facing Glover Teixeira (22-2) sometime in the first half of 2014. If Jones and Gustafsson both win their next fights, there have been rumors circulating that we might see a Jones vs. Gustafsson II sometime towards the end of 2014.

“EA Sports UFC” will be released sometime in spring of 2014 and will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
