In a strange decision for his next bout at UFC on FOX 9, Mac Danzig (21-11-1) has chosen to not represent any company sponsors on his shorts
“I’m making a statement with this fight and I’m not having any sponsors other than my gym.
“Just tired of being a billboard for some of these companies who don’t have a vested interest. They’re just about slapping logo on your butt and send you on your way. I just wanted to do things on my own this time.”
Dana White was quick to chime in:
“His sponsor is Joe ‘Money’ Lauzon, the winner of every ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus he’s ever [won].
This, of course, pertains to Lauzon’s 12 post-fight bonus’ which ties former UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva for most in the promotion. The bonus money would guarantee Danzig $50,000 while he was paid $30,000 in his previous bout which didn’t include a win bonus. This means that a win coupled with a bonus may just make up for not having spinors and help drive Danzig’s point home of being used by companies who don’t have his best interest at heart:
“I’m happy to apart of the UFC and thats the main thing rather than supporting someone who doesn’t really care about me.”
Danzig will fight Joe Lauzon (22-9) on the first bout of the main card. The fight was promoted from the feature preliminary bout after Matt Brown (18-11) sustained two herniated discs in his back, forcing him to pull out of his bout with Carlos Condit (29-7).
Lauzon states that he doesn’t try to win bonus’ but instead, they fall in to his lap:
“Contrary to popular belief I don’t try to get Fight of the Night, ever. I go out their and I try to finish people quick. I’m not getting caught up in the bonus money.”
Danzig has his back against the wall in this bout having lost his previous two. His lost lost came via knockout at the hands of Melvin Guillard.
