Mauricio Rua jumped from the ninth position in the UFC light heavyweight rankings to the sixth spot following his prompt knockout of James Te Huna last weekend. The win is noteworthy for two reasons: it throws his name into contender consideration and simmers talk about his retirement. Rua’s victory had a domino effect on Dan Henderson, Gegard Mousasi, and Chael Sonnen who each dropped a spot, respectively.
Previously unranked Mark Hunt made a dent in the UFC heavyweight division in breaking into the top ten, just ahead of Stipe Miocic. While Hunt’s fight with Antonio Silva ended in a draw, it received Fight of the Night honors and ensured a leap over Roy “Big Country” Nelson on the list.
Other notable moves include Lyoto Machida moving up to number four in the middleweight division, dropping Michael Bisping down a spot. Liz Carmouche fell to sixth place in the women’s division, just behind Jessica Eye.
