According to recent reports by MMA Junkie and Bleacher Report, Matt Brown (18-11) has withdrawn from his scheduled bout against Carlos Condit (29-7) at UFC on FOX 9. Brown cited two herniated discs in his back as reason for withdrawing from the bout. Reports have also indicated that no replacement opponent will be sought after, and the bout will be scrapped altogether.
Brown is currently riding a six-fight winning streak and hasn’t lost a match since 2011. Condit most recently defeated Martin Kampmann after back to back losses to Georges St-Pierre and Johny Hendricks. The “Natural Born Killer” was really looking forward to facing off against Brown. He’d previously said that he was interested in fighting him because of his winning streak in the welterweight division. Unfortunately for Condit, he won’t be getting that matchup as soon as he wanted.
Meanwhile, a lightweight bout between UFC veterans Mac Danzig (21-11-1) and Joe Lauzon (22-9) has been added to the main card. Danzig has won five of his twelve UFC fights since debuting in the promotion back in 2007, but he’s currently riding a two-fight losing streak. Lauzon has won nine of his fifteen fights in the promotion and has also lost his last two bouts.
Neither fighter wants to drop three fights in a row. The loser of this bout is likely to get cut from the promotion, therefore, there will be immense pressure on both fighters to win.
UFC on FOX 9 will take place on December 14th at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California.
