Lauren Murphy vs. Miriam Nakamoto for the Invicta FC bantamweight championship.
Round 1: Nakamoto controlled the pace with leg kicks and a takedown. Murphy bobbed up and down, while Nakamoto stalked her, followed her around the cage and pressed the action.
Round 2: Not a lot of action in round 2, other than a low blow my Murphy that forced the referee to call a quick time out. Nakamoto appears frustrated with Murpy’s fight style — elusive and fighting from awkward angles. Nakamoto was bleeding from the nose to end round two.
Round 3: Murphy’s saw the blood is tried to move in with her power. Murphy tied her up and pushed her back against the cage looking for a takedown, but Nakamoto blocked it. Murphy tried to exert her power, pushing for the takedown. With a little more than a minute left in the round, Murphy finally took her down. Nakamoto scrambled, buy Murphy got her back and stuck to her Chael Sonnen-style. Murphy pounded Nakamoto with several shots to the head while on top of her.
Round 4: Nakamoto collapsed to start the round after her right knee gave out. The replay showed Nakamoto’s knee roll down her leg before she collapse in pain. Cageside announcer Miesha Tate speculated that she tore her ACL during one of Murphy’s takedown attempts.
The victory came at 23 seconds of the fourth round. Murphy won the Invicta FC bantamweight championship.
“I think she’s an amazing fighter and if she wants a rematch I will give it to her,” Murphy said.
