Perhaps the best heavyweight fight in UFC history took place last night. When this ‘best ever’ talk arises, its safe to wait until the dust has settled and the fight has been re-watched to really get a gauge on how great it was but seriously. When is the last time a heavyweight bout has been not only exciting for the entire duration but also, so close and competitive?
That is exactly why Mark Hunt (9-8-1) and Bigfoot Silva (18-5-1) may have put on the best fight of the year and perhaps the best in their division.
For their efforts, UFC President Dana White has stated that both men will be given their win bonus and on top of that, a cool $50K on top of that for the ‘Fight of the Night’.
The other bonus given (read: taken) was the ‘Knockout of the Night’ one which Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua (22-8) claimed with a scintillating knockout and resurgence which ended in him being the only fighter to remain consciousness as the referee called an end to the fight. He defeated James Te Huna (16-7) He too will get $50K.
No submission bonus was given out as none occurred on the card.
