After two injuries took out potential opponents for Scott Jorgenson’s (14-7) flyweight debut, the UFC reached outside its own roster to bring in an opponent. Jorgenson was originally expected to take on Ian McCall and then John Dodson until both men subsequently dropped out of the fight.
That opponent is former Bellator and current RFA champion Zach Makovsky (16-4). Makovsky was released from his Bellator contract after two straight losses, the first of which saw him lose his bantamweight title. Makovsky then joined UFC feeder league RFA which has lived up to its moniker.
Makovsky won the flyweight title in the promotion with a win in his debut at flyweight.
He now faces the biggest fight of his career against Jorgenson with just a week and a half notice. Their bout will take place on the preliminary card, airing on FOX Sports 1.
UFC on FOX 9 takes place on December 14th at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California. It is headlined by a flyweight title fight between Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez.
