UFC welterweight Thiago Alves spent most of 2012 and all of 2013 out of action due to a series of surgeries to repair lingering knee injuries sustained in his 2009 title bout with Georges St-Pierre.
Along with the initial surgery to fix his knee, Alves underwent two more procedures to fix a torn ACL and PCL in the left knee while also repairing his biceps with yet another surgery.
Alves last fought Martin Kampmann, losing via guillotine choke with under a minute to go in the final round. Alves has just two victories since 2009 and has gone 2-4 in his last six. The deadly Brazilian striker will surely look for a game opponent to make a triumphant return against as the 30-year-old looks to climb back up the ranks of a crowded welterweight division.
