On Wednesday night’s edition of UFC Tonight, it was revealed that the UFC 171 main event will feature a light heavyweight championship bout between current champ Jon Jones (19-1) and challenger Glover Teixeira (22-2).
At just twenty-six years old, Jones has drawn up a very impressive mixed martial arts resume. He holds wins over many notable names in the sport, including Stephan Bonnar, Brandon Vera, Vladimir Matyushenko, Ryan Bader, Mauricio Rua, Quinton Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Vitor Belfort, and Chael Sonnen. Having most recently defeated Alexander Gustafsson by a controversial unanimous decision win at UFC 165, Jones will undoubtedly be looking to silence his critics with a strong performance against Teixera come this March.
At thirty-four years old, Teixeira is eight years the elder to Jones. The Brazilian slugger has proven time and time again that he’s a tough as nails fighter worthy of challenging Jones for his belt. In the span of his MMA career, he’s beaten Marvin Eastman, Ricco Rodriguez, Quinton Jackson, James Te Huna, and Ryan Bader. Of his twenty-two career wins, thirteen have come by knockout, six by submission, only three of his victories have ever gone the distance, and he’s currently undefeated in the UFC.
UFC 171 will take place on March 15th at the American Airlines Arena, Dallas, Texas.
