UFC welterweight Jake Ellenberger was recently forced out of his UFC Fight Night 34 main event opposite Tarec Saffiedine (14-3). Now, Saffiedine will fight Hyun Gyu Lim (12-3-1) pitting two dangerous strikers against one another in a pivotal welterweight matchup.
Saffiedine is the last Strikeforce welterweight champion, defeating Nate Marquardt by a clear-cut unanimous decision. This win raised his record in Strikeforce to 4-0. The Belgian native will be looking for a successful debut to prove that the wait for his arrival was well worth it.
A dominant win, his second KO win in the UFC and his first ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus marked his last fight for the promotion. Lim went to a memorable albeit, short war with Pascal Krauss at UFC 164.
The fight will be the UFC’s first in Singapore, taking place at the Marina Bay Sands in Marina Bay, Singapore. The event takes place on January 4th at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT. Make sure to wake up early or set your DVR’s to catch the card as it airs in primetime locally in Singapore.
The card will also be the first one supported by the UFC’s new digital channel.
