According to TUF 18 coach Miesha Tate, this season of the show has served a great purpose.
The purpose she referred to was allowing mixed martial arts fans to see her side of the story in her epic rivalry with current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champ Ronda Rousey. Up until the airing of the show, Rousey was seen as an infallible champion who could say or do nothing wrong. Afterwards, many MMA fans changed their minds about the WMMA icon.
Here’s an excerpt of Tate’s interview with MMA Junkie:
“It feels kind of nice, finally,” Tate told MMAjunkie. “For a long time, I felt very misunderstood. I felt like a lot of people really thought they could hear what Ronda was saying, but I never got any coverage. It was all the Ronda show, and it was like she was the one on the covers of everything and getting all this press. Everyone was really only hearing her side of the story.”
“It was kind of nice to be able to shed some light on the truth, and people could really see how we interact and the reason why it’s impossible to get along with her or like her.”
Evidence of Tate’s increased popularity over Rousey is overwhelming on the internet. It seems most fans have completely turned against the champ after seeing her true colors. Tate even beat her rival in a fan voting contest to appear on the “EA Sports UFC” video-game cover.
In addition to winning the popularity contest, Tate proved to be a more effective coach as well. Team Tate bested team Rousey in the quarterfinal round of the season by finishing 5-3 in the eight-man and eight-woman tournaments.
With their team competitions out of the way, the two are set to face off on December 28th at UFC 168.
