Many fans doubted the heart of Akira Corassani when he was unable to continue Saturday night after being hit in the nose with an illegal knee by Maximo Blanco. It turns out the knee did more damage than the critics thought. After taking X-rays, it has been revealed that the Swedish fighter’s nose has been broken in five different places as a result of the illegal strike.
Corassani posted his x-ray results on instagram:
“Broke my nose in 5 places which was not as bad as the concussion from the knee. The dizziness got worse gradually and I was rocked as hell. Truthfully I dont remember much but this was not the way I wanted to win, I was more than ready for this fight and due to a stupid move the fight was ruined. Thanks for all your support and I’ll be back soon!”
The bout lasted a mere twenty-five seconds. Blanco immediately took the offensive and scored a takedown within the first few seconds of the opening frame. Corassani began scrambling to his feet, but before he could completely get up off the ground, Blanco kneed him in the face. The referee immediately stepped in to stop the fight. Corassani still had a knee and a hand on the mat, therefore, the strike was illegal and Blanco was disqualified.
This advances Corassani’s UFC record to 3-0. As for Blanco, his UFC record has fallen to 1-2.
