The UFC has officially announced that middleweights Lorenz Larkin (14-1-0) and Brad Tavares (11-1-0) are set to face off at UFC Fight Night 35 on January 15th at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia. The main event of the evening will also be a middleweight fight between former Strikeforce Champion Luke Rockhold and Constantinos Philipou.
When the UFC purchased Strikeforce, Larkin came over with it. Since then, he has gone 1-1, picking up the first and only loss of his career by dropping a unanimous decision against Francis Carmont at his UFC debut. After that loss, he quickly rebounded with a unanimous decision victory over Chris Camozzi.
His opponent, Brad Tavares, has been fighting in the UFC since 2010. Having dropped only one unanimous decision to Aaron Simpson, Tavares is currently riding a four-fight winning streak.
There’s definitely more pressure on Larkin going into this fight; if he loses, his UFC record will be 1-2. That means he could potentially be fighting for his right to stay in the UFC.
