Former UFC welterweight, Rousimar Palhares (15-5) has signed with World Series of Fighting, according to sources who spoke with MMAJunkie.com. The contract is an exclusive and multi-deal one.
“Rousimar is one of the most talented athletes in mixed martial arts, and we’re excited to have him as a part of our organization,” President of WSOF, Ray Sefo said.
Palhares received a heavy amount of criticism from the UFC, media, and fans alike for holding his patented heel hook submission for too long in his last win over Mike Pierce. He was subsequently handed a lifetime ban from the UFC.
Palhares joins the only division in the WSOF with a champion, and has yet to been matched up with an opponent. Fellow former UFC welterweight Jon Fitch has expressed concern towards a fight with Palhares.
His expected debut for the promotion is rumored for March of 2014.
