Recent reports have indicated that Croatian kickboxing and mixed martial arts legend Mirko Cro Cop has signed with GLORY.
Having most recently lost his last MMA bout to Alexey Oleinik in the first round via submission, it seems Cro Cop has decided to return to his kickboxing roots. It’s a smart choice, considering his latest performances in mixed martial arts haven’t been as stellar as they used to be, and he did recently win the 2013 K-1 World Grand Prix. Cro Cop had made it to the finals fourteen years earlier where he was defeated by Dutch kickboxing legend Ernesto Hoost. Who knew that the Croatian Sensation would return almost a decade and a half later to claim the most widely acclaimed kickboxing title in the world.
A return to kickboxing will mean that the heavyweight slugger will no longer have to worry about the ground game, the one aspect of mixed martial arts that gave him the most trouble throughout his professional fighting career. Cro Cop is expected to fight on March 8, 2014 in his hometown of Zagreb, Croatia. His opponent has not been announced yet.
Mirko Cro Cop retired from MMA in 2011 after losing three consecutive fights in the UFC. He made his return over a year later and has gone 1-1 since then.
