The UFC has officially announced their latest addition to their January 25th fight card.
Heavyweights Gabriel Gonzaga (16-7) and Stipe Miocic (10-1) will face off on the UFC’s first FOX-televised event of the year 2014. The main event of the night will feature a lightweight bout between Josh Thomson (20-5) and former UFC champ Benson Henderson (19-3).
Henderson recently lost his title by a first round submission loss to Anthony Pettis at UFC 164 and is looking to earn his way back to title contention. Thomson was originally scheduled to face Anthony Pettis for the title, but his dreams were crushed when Pettis pulled out of the bout due to a knee injury. Henderson was selected as his replacement opponent.
Gonzaga is currently riding a two-fight winning streak, having knocked out both Dave Herman and Shawn Jordan each in the first round. Miocic’s only loss on his record is against Stefan Struve, and he quickly rebounded by defeating Roy Nelson via unanimous decision. This will be a classic battle of grappler vs. striker. The victor will be whichever fighter is able to impose his game plan on the other.
