A flyweight match between Chris Cariaso (15-5) vs. Kyoji Horiguchi (12-1) is set for UFC 169 in February. This will be the flyweight debut for Horiguchi. This news is via Fight Sport Asia.
With only a single blemish on his record, Horiguchi made his UFC debut at UFC 166, stopping Dustin Pague in the second round with strikes. This marked Horiguchi’s first time fighting professionally outside of his home country of Japan. The former 132-pound Shooto champ will now look to conduct a winning streak on his path to the title in a new division.
For Cariaso, a must win situation followed him in to his previous bout opposite Illiarde Santos. Cariaso won the bout via TKO, preventing himself from racking up his third consecutive loss. He now faces a tough test in Horiguchi, which could propel him up the UFC’s thinnest male division with a win.
UFC 169 takes place on February 1st at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. It is headlined by a pair of title fights as Dominick Cruz returns from more than two years of being sidelined by injury. He will look to unify his undisputed bantamweight belt with interim champ, Renan Barao.
The other bout co-headlining the card is a featherweight championship bout between Jose Aldo and Ricardo Lamas.
A third announced bout is a heavyweight showdown between former UFC heavyweight champion, Frank Mir against former Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem.
