Having most recently lost his lightweight title to Anthony Pettis by submission in the first round, Benson Henderson has been itching to get back in the octagon for some time. Now, he’ll finally get his chance.
UFC officials have announced that Henderson will face off against Josh Thomson on January 25 at UFC on Fox 10.
Thomson was originally scheduled to take on lightweight champ Anthony Pettis, but “Showtime” had to pull out of the bout due to a knee injury. As a result, UFC matchmakers decided to replace him with Henderson.
Thomson’s overall professional mixed martial arts record is 20-5-1. In Thomson’s last fight in the UFC, he earned a second round TKO victory over Nate Diaz via head kick and punches. Thomson has had many other notable fights in other promotions. He holds wins over Nam Phan, Gilbert Melendez, Pat Healy, and K.J. Noons from when he fought in Strikeforce.
UFC President Dana White made the official announcement at the UFC 167 post-fight press conference.
