The first fight of the evening is a bantamweight tilt between Bellator veteran and season 6 bantamweight tournament winner, Marcos Galvao taking on Tom McKenna who debuts at Bellator 108.
Bellator is dubbing this bout a feature fight and for these two fighters, it couldn’t be more important. Galvao is looking for the road back to a title fight after dropping his February title challenge to Eduardo Dantes. For McKenna, a statement victory means a healthy start to his Bellator career.
Bantamweight: Marcos Galvao defeats Tom McKenna via TKO (strikes) at 4:29 of Round 1.
Galvao quickly took the back of McKenna during a short scramble right after the opening bell. Galvao went to work once in control on the ground. McKenna tried his best but couldn’t halt Galvao in his advance to the full mount. Galvao grabbed ahold of the chin of McKenna but never sunk his arm under the neck, instead he postured up and started to soften McKenna with punches. Galvao was able to get back control and seemed to be locking in an armbar when McKenna snuck out of it.
McKenna was immediately taken down once more, extending his time on the bottom eating shots. Galvao continued to throw punches and never let up, forcing a stop to the fight.
