Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Renzo Gracie predicts that UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman will submit Anderson Silva when the two rematch in December.
Gracie made the comments on the MMA Hour.
Weidman KO’s Silva earlier this year, ending Silva’s reign as middleweight champion and taking away the title of “pound-for-pound” best in the sport. Silva was clowning with Weidman, when Weidman caught him with a right hand knocked him out.
Gracie said this Weidman won’t need to knock him because he will likely submit him.
“He will submit him,” said Gracie, one of Weidman’s coaches. “I do believe he’s going to submit him, yes. He’s getting better every day. If Anderson doesn’t improve his ground game, he will be in trouble this time.”
The two will collide at UFC 168 in Las Vegas.
Gracie said Silva’s time as No. 1 in the sport has passed.
“I like Anderson a lot, he’s an unbelievable champion,” he said. “It’s going to be a tough fight, but Weidman is the one for that task. If Anderson is not that careful, (Weidman) is going to take Anderson down and submit him.”
Silva has promised revenge against Weidman and to take his title back.
Gracie is one of the sport’s top trainers. He has an MMA record of 13-7 and last fought in 2010 when he was knocked out by Matt Hughes.
