UFC President Dana White is apparently the latest to jump on the Vitor Belfort bandwagon.
In the post-fight press conference at UFC Fight Night 32, White sang Belfort’s praises.
“I like Vitor and I respect Vitor,” White said. “It’s tough to not respect the fighter he has become. He’s 1,000 times better than the fighter he used to be.”
Belfort KO’d Dan Henderson with a left hook, followed by a kick to the head. Belfort became the first man in Henderson’s illustrious career to KO the PRIDE, UFC and Strikeforce fighter.
The loss was Henderson’s third consecutive setback in the UFC, after losing to Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida. Henderson’s UFC contract expired with the Belfort fight. White said after the press conference that he wanted to wait two weeks before talking about a new contract with Henderson.
In the meantime, White believes Belfort has been reborn.
“When he hit Dan Henderson with that uppercut he lifted Dan Henderson off the floor,” White said. “Dan Henderson was done after that.”
Belfort, 36, has experienced a career resurgence. He knocked out former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold and then KO’d Michael Bisping. Prior to knocking out Rockhold, Bisping and Henderson, Belfort nearly tapped out UFC light heavyweight champion and pound-for-pound No.1 fighter in the world Jon Jones with a submission armbar, before Jones eventually submitted Belfort.
