Two legends, Dan Henderson and Vitor Belfort, collided Saturday night at UFC Fight Night.
Vitor Belfort pulled off a stunning knockout of Dan Henderson at 1:17 of the first round.
Belfort dropped him with a big left uppercut that sent Henderson to his back. Henderson tried to use his Jiu-Jitsu to tie up Belfort, but it didn’t work. Henderson tied him up briefly, but Belfort kept the pressure on.
Henderson, who has never really tasted that kind of power, scrambled to get back up, but as soon as he did Belfort smashed him with a wicked leg kick to the head that sent Henderson crashing back down. The referee jumped in to stop the fight.
It is the first time Henderson, 29-11, has ever been knocked out in his illustrious career. Belfort improves to 24-10 with the knockout.
With the win, Belfort avenges the loss to Henderson at PRIDE 32 in 2006, when Henderson won by unanimous decision. The fight was Henderson’s last under contract with the UFC, while Belfort put himself into middleweight title contention.
Belfort now has knocked out Luke Rockhold, Michael Bisping and Henderson in his last three fights.
