UFC president Dana White has confirmed that Cain Velasquez is injured, and will not be able to defend his title against Fabricio Werdum as planned. The bout was previously scheduled for UFC 172, and would’ve taken place next April in Mexico City.

Velasquz reportedly injured his shoulder during his five-round bout with Junior Dos Santos at UFC 166, and may need to undergo surgery.

The UFC has not yet revealed a timetable for Velasquez’s return, but we wish him a speedy and safe recovery.
