Vitor Belfort has had a long career as a mixed martial arts fighter and has fought many of the sport’s biggest names. He even has a fight coming up on November 9th against MMA legend Dan Henderson.
Recently, Jorge Guimaraes, the manager of Lyoto Machida, made an appearance on “UFC Tonight” and spoke with Ariel Helwani. Guimaraes said that Belfort would not fight Machida because it would be “an unfavorable style match up.”
Belfort is currently riding a two-fight winning streak over Michael Bisping and Luke Rockhold, whom he defeated both by TKO and KO. His rematch against Dan Henderson goes back to 2006, when he lost to “Hendo” by unanimous decision.
Machida is currently coming off a first round knockout win over Mark Munoz. “The Dragon” expressed interest in doing battle with Belfort in the past, and UFC President Dana White has also supported the idea of a matchup between the two Brazilians.
On the other hand, Belfort has never commented on the issue.
If there ever is a fight between the two Brazilians, it’s possible that the winner could very well be considered for a title shot.
As for the comments by Machida’s manager that Belfort would be unwilling to fight Machida due to “an unfavorable style match up,” Belfort has not yet responded to his comments.
