After Tito Ortiz backed out of his scheduled Bellator match up against Rampage due to a serious neck injury, Bellator was struggling to find him a replacement opponent. However, recent developments have indicated that the organization has finally found a replacement fighter for the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.
Joey Beltran has been chosen as a last minute replacement opponent to fight Rampage. Beltran most recently lost to Fabio Maldonado at UFC Fight Night 29 via split decision. After his loss, he was officially cut from the UFC roster.
Rampage has lost his last three fights in the UFC, so it’s no wonder he’s so eager to get a win under his belt. Rampage holds wins over Igor Vovchanchyn, Kevin Randleman, Chuck Liddell, Ricardo Arona, Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva, and Lyoto Machida. But in recent years, his performances have been very lackluster. He’s failed to make weight, and has looked very out of shape and unmotivated in his latest fights.
He seems to have a new boost of motivation ever since he left the UFC and signed with Bellator. Rampage is a heavy favorite going into this bout against Beltran. If he loses, it could be a clear signal that the thirty-five year old should seriously consider retirement.
