The Velasquez camp was recently shocked to hear that the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation issued the UFC Heavyweight Champ a medical suspension for a possible broken jaw following his victory over Junior Dos Santos at UFC 166.
“The thing is totally fine, and it was totally fine,” said Zinkin Entertainment spokesperson Heidi Seibert in an interview with MMAjunkie.com. “He hasn’t seen a doctor or anything.”
Seibert said the reason Velasquez chose not to see a doctor was because, “he didn’t feel there was a need to see one.”
Cain Velasquez dominated his opponent at UFC 166, battering him to a bloody pulp for almost 5 rounds while he emerged from the fight receiving very little damage himself. He even attended his own after party that same night. This long 6 month medical suspension has taken him and his camp completely by surprise.
Seibert admitted that Velasquez did receive some stitches on his nose, but she still continues to maintain that he never had any problems with his jaw.
“He’s been eating whatever he wants. He’s fine,” Seibert added to MMAjunkie.com
Six months can be a long time off from training, so don’t be surprised if we see Velasquez try to make an appeal to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
